High school may have ended, but that doesn't mean that "The Vampire Diaries" is over. What's the typical next step after graduation? College. That's right, in season 5 Mystic Falls is moving on to bigger and better things, leaving their homes behind but taking their friends, and vampire drama, along with them.
Season 4 ended on some shocking notes, but one twist in particular changed everything we thought we knew about the series: Elena's (no longer) beloved Stefan is none other than Silas.
As Stefan prepares to toss Silas in the ocean, he discovers that he has broken free of his stone prison. The witch who cast the spell that bound him, Bonnie, is now gone, setting him free. He takes the form of Elena and explains that he created the immortality spell thousands of years ago so he could never die, but in order to achieve balance in the universe, nature demanded a shadow self that can die. As it turns out, Stefan is the doppelganger, and Silas locks up the real Stefan and throws him in the ocean. This is certainly going to shake things up in season 5.
Moving forward, it looks like Jeremy will remain undead and assume a more prominent role in the next season. "Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec sat down with Zap2it and opened up about Jeremy's return.
"It's something that we talked about a lot," Plec says. "Our intention, originally, was to say goodbye [to Jeremy] permanently. But then a lot of questions came up about the power of this girl losing her only living relative. It was so important to her journey at that moment. The global, eternally reaching tragedy attached to that is really sad, and really depressing."
And what about Elena's decision to stick with Damon over Stefan? "I am not sorry that I'm in love with you," she told him in last night's finale. How will her decision factor in the season 5? Plec explains.
"We're going to get to see Damon trying to be a good boyfriend, and while it's not going to be easy, he's going to try like hell to make it work, and they're going to have a real opportunity for happiness."Delena fans rejoice!
And finally, Bonnie. Previous rumors indicated that Bonnie will also play a significant role next season, but she's trapped behind the veil. Plec clears up the confusion however.
"Here's what I'll say about Bonnie: I haven't personally seen 'Being Human,' but I do know that they have a ghost character that operates pretty successfully on that show," Plec says. "This is not the last we've seen of Bonnie. If anything, she will be right there in the middle of story next season, just with a few new complications."
Season 5 of "The Vampire Diaries" will return to The CW for a fifth season. When exactly is still unclear, but there's plenty more vampire drama on the horizon.
