'How I Met Your Mother' Season 9 Spoilers: Barney and Ted's Long Wedding Weekend Will Bring Series to a Close

Now that "How I Met Your Mother" fans know the identity of the coveted mother, the show will be making a major shift. For eight seasons, "HIMYM" has revolved around a single driving factor, and now that the secret's out, season 9 will reveal how the aftermath unfolds. It's going to be interesting last season as many looming questions remain.

The entire season 8 built up to Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin's (Cobie Smulders) wedding, and they never got hitched. Ted (Josh Radnor) has repeatedly expressed his love for Robin, but fans will have to wait for season 9 to learn if he will breakup her wedding. And there will be plenty of time to do so as season 9 will place entirely over the course of Barney and Robin's wedding weekend.

Fans will be closely watching Ted's every move with wedding weekend in full swing and the mother (Cristin Milioti) on her way, but much to their chagrin, he may not actually meet her until much later in the season, perhaps even the finale. It's curious, however, that Milioti will play a major role in the upcoming season. But if Ted doesn't meet her until later on, with whom will she be spending her time? The other central characters? Or will Ted perhaps choose not to attend the wedding due to his aching heart, only to arrive at the very end?

When commenting on the season 8 finale and the reveal of the mother, co-creator and executive producer Carter Bay said in a statement, "It was a pretty big umbrella to fill, casting the title role in a series that's been on the air for eight years. And yet Cristin Milioti is, against all odds, exactly what we were looking for. She made us laugh on 30 Rock, she made us swoon in Once, and her ukulele skills are no joke. We're thrilled to welcome her to the How I Met Your Mother family, and look forward to getting to know her - and the character she plays - much better in the coming final season.
