Former Philadelphia Eagle and current ESPN football analyst, Ron Jaworski, has extended an offer to unemployed quarterback, Tim Tebow, to play ball for his Philadelphia Soul Arena Football League (AFL).
"I haven't heard back from him and I'm not going to push it," said Jaworski to Philly.com, who is part owner of the AFL team. "If he decides he wants to play Arena Football, we'll make a spot for him."
Jaworski, who played quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, the Miami Dolphins, and the Kansas City Chiefs as well as led the Eagles to a Super Bowl XV appearance, feels that a stint in the AFL could do Tebow a world of good, as far as working on his deficiencies.
"Jaws", as he is known to fans, believes the speed of the AFL game can only help the former Heisman Trophy winner improve his quarterback mechanics.
"One [criticism] of Tebow is that he is slow and methodical," Jaworski said. "He would be forced to quicken it up in this league and it would be good training for him. You can learn a lot in this league."
Kurt Warner is the poster boy of quarterbacks who have refined their craft in the AFL and later found success in the National Football League (NFL). Warner often credits his time in the AFL, particularly the faster pace of the games in the league, for helping him become a two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) winner.
"It's about processing information and getting the ball out ... or you get whacked," said Jaworski.
Jaworski and Soul's head coach Clint Dolezel believe that Tebow can be a huge asset for the team in goal-line situations, where he can take advantage of his size and unique skill-sets.
Despite pursuing the former two-time NCAA champion, Dolezel went out of his way to prevent any quarterback controversy, that seems to follow Tebow everywhere he goes, re-iterating that Dan Raudabaugh will remain the Soul's starter, whether the former New York Jet is signed or not.
