Composer Hans Zimmer has revealed what his inspiration for the "Man of Steel" score was.

Zimmer told the The Rolling Stone that for the track entitled "DNA," he reached into Superman's human identity and Kansas upbringing for a tense, frantic track that captures the glory of Middle America.

He said, "My inspiration for the music came from trying to celebrate all that is good and kind in the people of America's heartland, without cleverness or cynicism. Just from the heart." He continued "I wanted the epic sound of the fields and farms stretching past the horizon, of the wind humming in the telephone wires. The music is less about the icon that Superman is and more about the outsider with extraordinary powers and his struggle to become a part of humanity."

Zimmer last scored "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows."He also worked on "Rango" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tide." He last scored "Twelve Years a Slave," "The Lone Ranger," and "Rush."

"Man of Steel" was directed by Zack Snyder who is best known for his work on "Watchman" and "300." He also directed "Sucker Punch" and "Legend of Guardians: The Owl of Ga'Hoole." Christopher Nolan produced the film after having directed "The Dark Knight" series, "Inception" and "The Prestige." He is currently directing "Interstellar" with Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, and Anne Hathaway.

The film stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

It will open at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 12th and will be released nationwide in theaters on June 14, 2013. It is rated PG-13 for for intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language. The soundtrack is currently available on ITunes and in stores.
