The Bruins battled back from a poor start in Game 7 and won in overtime to claim their seven game series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Leafs were the underdogs heading into their series with Boston and were pushed to the brink of elimination after losing at home in Game 4. They battled back to a Game 7 and nearly won; however a late Boston onslaught tied the game and in overtime, the Bruins found a way to win.
The two sides played a tight first period with Toronto outshooting Boston 12 to seven in the first period. Boston earned the game's first goal from Matt Bartkowski at the 5:39 mark but Toronto's Cody Franson leveled the score just four minutes later. In the second period, Toronto took the lead at the 5:48 when Franson netted his second goal of the match.
The third period saw floodgate open up on both sides with Toronto's Phil Kessel and Nazem Kadri adding another two goals in the first six minutes. Despite trailing 4-1, the Bruins fought back and earned a goal from Nathan Horton at the 9:18 mark. Milan Lucic would add another at the 18:38 mark to put the Bruins within one goal. Just 21 seconds later, Patrice Bergeron knotted the score at four.
The game then headed to overtime in the most dramatic finish possible. Bergeron would score six minutes into the extra session to end Toronto's season and give Boston another chance at a Stanley Cup.
The Maple Leafs have not won a playoff series since 2004.
