The Anaheim Ducks will look to close out their Western Conference quarterfinals series on Friday when they take on the Detroit Red Wings.
Despite falling behind twice in Game 5, the Ducks persevered and were eventually rewarded when Nick Bonino scored his third goal of series in overtime; the goal was Bonino's second game winner of the series for the Ducks.
Now the team will have defeat the Red Wings in Detroit; a feat Anaheim accomplished in Game 3.
"We've beat them in their building. We want to do it again," Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin said. "I think having lost the first two games that we went into overtime, we wanted to win that one just to give us a little bit of confidence. We knew we could beat them. Just to do it here tonight here in Game 5 was big."
"There's lots of coulda, woulda, shoulda stuff," said a disappointed Red Wings coach Mike Babcock. "The bottom line is, a playoff game, we hit three posts tonight they didn't go in. That's life. I thought they were way better than us in the first, I thought we were way better than them in the second, I thought the third was even, and they scored in OT."
"It's too bad we wasted a really good effort from Howie," added Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. "It's amazing how good he is. It doesn't feel too good not being able to get one for him tonight."
Prediction: Detroit evens the series with a 4-3 win. Expect huge games from Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk.
