One day after Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement from managing Manchester United, the club announced a six-year deal with Everton boss David Moyes.

"It's a great honor to be asked to be the next manager of Manchester United," Moyes stated about his new assignment. "I am delighted that Sir Alex saw fit to recommend me for the job. I have great respect for everything he has done and for the football club."

Moyes enters his tenure with a lot to live up to. His predecessor Ferguson leaves Manchester United after leading the team to 13 premier league titles in his 26-year tenure. He won a total of 38 titles, including two UEFA Champions league victories in 1998-99 ad 2007-08.

"I know how hard it will be to follow the best manager ever, but the opportunity to manage Manchester United isn't something that comes around very often and I'm really looking forward to taking up the post next season," added Moyes.

Ferguson also believes the Everton boss is qualified to follow in his footsteps.

"When we discussed the candidates that we felt had the right attributes we unanimously agreed on David Moyes," Ferguson said. "David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic. I've admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of assistant manager here."

Moyes took over Everton in 2002 and transformed it from a relegation club into a qualifier for European competition. In 2005, he even helped the team to a qualification round in the Champions League where they lost to Villarreal.

Moyes' contract becomes effective on July 1, 2013.
