Showtime is keeping ‘Dexter’ fans intrigued as the premiere date for the final season inches closer and closer. On Wednesday, a new teaser for the show’s eighth season was released with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) taking center stage for his “Masterpiece.”
“How do you want to be remembered,” asks Dexter in the minute-long teaser. “We all leave behind a legacy,” he continues. “A monument to make our mark.” Fans can see the killer of killers working on a frame as he says, “But I’ve never stopped to consider what it is I’ve created.”
The video slowly spans out showing a wall full of portraits of Dexter’s victims as Dexter hangs up a final red portrait. He then stands directly in front of it and smiles. “Will they call it monstrous or a masterpiece?” he says. What does the final portrait-hanging mean?
In an earlier teaser, Dexter can be seen talking about his double life—Dexter Morgan by day and Dark Passenger by night. But as the years have gone by, the lines between his two lives has blurred. Dexter eludes to his own demise in the 41 second spot called “Behind a Mask.”
“How many more people have to suffer to keep my identity a secret,” Dexter asks. “Can this charade go on forever? Or will I finally hit a dead end?”
'Dexter' season 8 premieres on June 30 at 9 p.m. EST on SHOWTIME.
