The Neymar saga has taken a number of twists and turns over the last few weeks. However, it seems that the latest twist could stir the most controversy.
According to Soccer Lens, Real Madrid has decided to enter the sweepstakes for the coveted Brazilian and will supposedly offer a record 100 million euros to Neymar's current club Santos. The offer would likely secure the 21-year old for Brazil, but it would likely create a new identity for the club.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been the face of the team for years thanks to his price tag and star status. However, the arrival of Neymar for the aforementioned price would shift the focus from Ronaldo to Neymar.
Ronaldo's status with Real Madrid has been a story with as many episodes and rumors as Neymar's tale. The Portuguese superstar has been rumored to make a return to Manchester United, but there has been no confirmation; the purchase of Neymar would essentially secure Ronaldo's transfer out of Madrid.
Real Madrid was once rumored as a potential target for Neymar, but dropped out of favor with reports that Neymar was headed to rival Barcelona. However, Neymar's club Santos recently stated that it would take offers to sell the star rather than allowing him to sign with another team on his own.
"Our intention has been for him to stay beyond 2014. But he thinks his time at Santos and in Brazil is at an end," said Santos vice-president Odilio Rodrigues. "Now's the time for the speculation to start and for offers to come in. If they arrive, both Neymar and ourselves will have decisions to make."
