An inventive new ad by a Spanish organization that aims to help abused children has successfully found a way to reach parents and children with different messages from the same ad at the same time.
The advertisement was made by the Aid to Children and Adolescents at Risk Foundation (ANAR, for short) and it's goal was to provide a way for children who have been abused to see a message that their abusers would not be able to read.
So just how did ANAR figure out a way to display two different messages depending on who was viewing the ad? The technology is not as complicated as you may think.
The ad agency employed a concept that is fundamentally similar to a technology many of us stared in amazement at as kids. Remember the "holographic" pictures that would change with the angle they were viewed at? Well now that same concept is being put to use in a far better way.
ANAR constructed an advertisement that will have two different messages on it depending on how tall the viewer is. For anyone over four feet five inches, the message will simply read "sometimes, child abuse is only visible to the child suffering it" alongside a picture of a sad boy.
However, for those under four feet five inches, the angle at which they view the advertisement will allow for an entirely different message to appear. For that group, presumably almost all of whom will be children, the ad will read "if somebody hurts you, phone us and we'll help you" and is followed by a number to dial.
This type of display is known as lenticular imagery, and has been the fascination of countless children over the years. The above video shows just how such an advertisement would work.
