The Toronto Maples Leafs will try to prove that they belong in the playoffs when they take on the Boston Bruins in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
The Leafs got off to an early 1-0 lead but imploded and allowed four unanswered goals to the Bruins.
"I just thought we self-destructed," Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said. "We had a decent start; we scored the first goal and got ourselves on the right track. We had a good forecheck early in the hockey game and then we just stopped. We started to turn the puck over and we fed them and they took advantage of the miscues."
The win was huge for the Bruins as the team had struggled down the stretch in the regular season.
"We really focused on our strengths and for whatever reason we were able to go out on the ice and execute the way we wanted to," said Bruins Denis Seidenberg. "That's the first step. It's the first game and now we have to carry that on into the second game."
Coach Claude Julien was cognizant that his team should not get comfortable as he expects a better match from Toronto.
"I think, we know we played a better game, but this is a seven game series, it's not a one game winner-takes-all here, so I don't think there's any reason to get overly excited or overly confident," added Julien. "There's no doubt that they're going to make some adjustments to their game and we'll have to adjust as well, but it's a seven-game series and we just have to remain grounded as we have in the past and just go out there and play hard. Hopefully, the way we did last night."
Prediction: Boston wins 3-0.
