Star Trek 3 News Update: Will J.J Abrams Direct the Next Instalment

In a recent interview J.J Abrams stated that he may not direct the next Star Trek film.

While speaking with the New York Times the director admitted that he did not think Paramount would wait for him to direct the next film. He stated "it was unlikely that Paramount would wait another four years for such a film, in which case his 'Star Wars' schedule would likely conflict with it." He also said that he had not committed yet but that Bad Robot, his production company would produce the film.

Abrams also told the Times that his producing partner Bryan Burk would constantly receive calls from Paramount of the wait beteen the two installments. Burk stated  "I would routinely get calls from the studio asking for confirmation that he was directing the movie," he said. "And we never really confirmed it. We just kept going forward."

When asked about "Star Wars" updates, Abrams stated that at the moment he was finishing his work on Star Trek and once he was finished he would move onto Star Wars. He said "right now is finishing up 'Star Trek' and doing it the best I can," and his work on Star Wars was so preliminary that it was "an insanely, impossibly exciting prospect."

The future of "Star Trek" lies uncertain. However, Star Wars is moving along smoothly with Kathleen Kennedy as producer and Michael Arndt as the writer. Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford are rumored to star while George Lucas is expected to collaborate on the production.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" will be released in on May 10^th and has received great reviews. The film stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto, and Alice Eve.

Disney will unveil "Star Wars Episode VII" in 2015.
