"The Avengers 2" is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated upcoming films. Director Joss Whedon has been actively dropping hints over the last few weeks and he did not miss out on an opportunity to continue the trend during an interview with Desde Hollywood.

The end credits of the first "Avengers" revealed Thanos, a prominent villain in the Marvel comic book world and it is widely believed that he is the next opponent for the Avengers in the sequel.

"Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful he is not someone you can just try out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him to threading through the universe and to save the big finale for 'the big finally'. He is definitely a part of what I have got going on," said Whedon. "The thing about the Avengers is that they are very powerful but not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment."

A number of publications have questioned whether or not Whedon's quote indicates that Thanos will be saved for "The Avengers 3" rather than the second installment. However, Bleeding Cool suggests, "My hunch is that Thanos will have a role to play, but not be vanquished. That's because I'm expecting an Infinity Gems storyline the thread through Phase 3."

During his conversation, Whedon also talked about the possibility of Robert Downey Jr. continuing to play Iron Man. The actor hinted that he might have had enough of the superhero, especially after suffering an injury on the set of "Iron Man 3."

"I want him to play it forever. The great thing is that he has a flying metal suit. So it's not like those Charles Bronson or Roger Moore movies where you're like 'Dude, you can barely stand,'" said Whedon. "When he's got some fight in him. At the same time, if Robert decides to hang it up, he has a perfectly good excuse."
