The Montreal Alouettes, a franchise in the Canadian Football League, is reportedly interested in signing free-agent quarterback Tim Tebow.
Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner, was released on Monday by the New York Jets after playing one season as a back-up quarterback for starter Mark Sanchez.
"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," coach Rex Ryan told ESPN on Monday. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."
A devout Christian, Tebow hasn't yet made a statement about his release but posted on Twitter an passage from the Bible.
"Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding...in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight," Tebow said on his Twitter account.
According to sources, Ryan and Jets general manager John Idzik had one-on-one conversation with Tebow at the team's training facility and informed the quarterback about his fate.
Tebow's future with the Jets became imminent after the team selected West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Yet, even before the draft, the Jets laboriously tried to trade away the most popular backup quarterback, but no NFL team showed interest about a possible hook-up with Tebowmania.
A number of NFL executives believes Tebow will have a better chance of prolonging his football career by shifting positions. Some writers think Tebow's wide frame is ideal for tight-end or linebacker position. However, Tebow apparently has no plans in abandoning the position that catapulted him to fame during his college career in Florida.
But with the situation he has right now, Tebow's chance of assuming quarterback role might be in another league, specifically north of the border.
Montreal Alouettes GM Jim Popp has already expressed interest in bringing Tebow to Montreal, where the former Gators star has an opportunity to learn behind veteran starter Anthony Calvillo.
"He would be in a learning program behind Anthony," a CFL insider told Real GM on Monday.
