Michael Bay has never been shy, but he has been uncharacteristically silent on his upcoming Ninja Turtles reboot. While Bay isn't directing (he'll be producing the film) his previous comments left many fans scratching their heads.

In 2012, Bay stated that the film would be simply titled Ninja Turtles, and that the turtles would be "from an alien race." Many took this to mean that the turtles would no longer be "mutant," and would instead originate from some kind of alien turtle planet. This was met with an overwhelmingly negative response, with a large segment of the fan base threatening to boycott the movie over the creative change.

In response, Bay asked fans to calm down, as the script had not been revealed, and that he and his team were working closely with the creators to maintain the important elements of the original story.

While promoting his latest film, Pain and Gain, Michael Bay further clarified his previous comments. He is finally making it very clear that the turtles will not in fact be aliens, but instead will be the result of mutations caused by alien ooze.

"There was that quote saying that we're making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We're not," Bay said to Moviefone. "It's the ooze! It's from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they're going to be really happy with this movie."

Bay also commented that early visual effects tests are going well, stating,  "When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great."

Ninja Turtles began production a few weeks ago, and is currently slated for a June 6, 2014 release date. It is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay.
