Kanye West has never ceased to shock not only his fans, but the entire music industry. His music has revolutionized modern hip-hop. His offensive statements toward fellow musicians have permanently stained his reputation. He claims to be the voice of a generation, and although the statement may sound arrogant and superficial, he has the popularity to back it up. Now, West is ready to make his comeback to music with the follow-up to his 2010 My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
West's upcoming appearance on "Saturday Night Live" has sparked rumors surrounding his sixth solo studio album, and according to New York City DJ Peter Rosenberg, the album is done is delightfully "dark." West's record label Def Jam even hosted an exclusive listening party.
"I just heard that Def Jam had a listening [session] last week, and everyone at the label listened to the album and loves it," Rosenberg said. "I heard it's dark, but really good." Listen to the audio recording of Rosenberg discussing the new album below.
West will perform on SNL, alongside host Ben Affleck, on May 18 during the show's season finale. He's made it clear that doesn't want to hear any jokes regarding Kim Kardashian's weight. Although his girlfriend may be pregnant, she's overly sensitive about Mother Nature's side effects and is tired of hearing about it everywhere she goes. West and Kardashian are expecting their first child shortly after the rapper's scheduled SNL performance, and hopefully the official announcement of his new album.
West recorded the album in Paris, which features a slew of guest contributors, including Daft Punk, TNGHT, Chief Keef and Azealia Banks.
It comes as no surprise that West's new album comes off as dark. Over the past several years he's been subject to relationship turmoil and public harassment. No matter his musical genius, people can't seem to get over his ego. Who knows? Perhaps his woeful new album could set the record straight. You never know with Kanye. We're just going to have to wait and see.
