Neymar is one of the world's most hyped players. At age 21, many expect the Brazilian to be the next Ronaldo, Pele, Kaka... you name it. However, his inconsistent play for the Brazilian squad has led to a ton of criticism from pundits and fan alike. After Wednesday's 2-2 draw against Chile, Neymar was serenaded with boos and jeers from the fans despite scoring one goal and assisting on the other.
"Obviously no one likes to be jeered and booed. I don't care about it any more, though. I get booed each game with the national team. It's getting boring," Neymar told Reuters after the match. "We always give our utmost for the team. All our opponents try do something extra when they meet Brazil. It's up to us do even better."
He did note that drawing the fans' ire is part of the game. "We have to get used to being jeered. That's football. One day you're booed and the next day people praise you. That's the way it is."
The biggest story surrounding the youngster is his move Barcelona this summer. Many have already acted like it's a done deal, including former Brazilian star Ronaldo.
"He has the potential [to become one of the world's best]," stated the striker during a recent interview "But we have to assess his impact on European football when he arrives at Barcelona."
Neymar has yet to make his intentions clear but he was thankful of the team's support. "I'm happy and I appreciate [Barcelona's] affection and support. Regardless of whatever team I sign for, I'm one of the happiest people in the world," he stated.
Barcelona is coming off a humbling 4-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the 2013 Champions league semifinals. The loss might push the team to up their bid of the phenom.
