Eminem, also known as Marshall Mathers or Slim Shady, has had one rollercoaster ride of a career. He began as an arrogant punk who said anything that came to his mind, not matter the consequences. The more offensive and jaw dropping, the better. One of his earlier studio releases, The Slim Shady LP, featured songs about killing himself, killing his girlfriend and psilocybin mushroom overdoses. Slowly but surely, he matured from his adolescence and established himself as one of hip-hop's most brilliant artists. Now, after three years without new music, Eminem will be making his return.
Legendary producer Dr. Dre confirmed the rumors during an interview on Power 106, saying "Em is finishing up his project." The rumors originally surfaced when the rapper released The Eminem Tribute Baseball Champ Hat on his website, marking 2013 as a "landmark solo album" year.
In May, the rapper posted on his Facebook page that read "Something Big Is Coming," followed by another post that said "New Eminem Album is coming very soon."
A radio station in the rappers hometown of Detroit then posted that the new album would arrive July 2, but they have since retracted the statement. Still, the post sparked fans' interest.
Eminem has yet to give fans an official release date, but in March, Shady Records President Paul Rosenberg confirmed that the new album would hit stores sometime after Memorial Day.
"We fully expect to be releasing a new Eminem album in 2013," said Rosenberg. "He's been working on it for some time." He added that Eminem would embark on a subsequent European tour in August to promote the new album. The tour will close at this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK August 23-25.
Rumors continue to circulate, and although there is no official release date, fans can be sure that Eminem's new album will drop sometime this summer. The wait is almost over.
