New details over the ousting of Ann Curry from the 'Today' show have emerged.
According to Us Weekly, a source has said that "Matt Lauer is 100 percent behind Ann leaving" and that both Curry and Lauer, "were really icy to each other, and she refused to speak to him all week."
Although not clear what Lauer's exact role was in getting Curry removed from 'Today', the comment to Us Weekly sounds as if Lauer played an important part.
Although Curry last week told USA Today that both Matt and herself "had great on-air chemistry for 14 years", that chemistry seems to have apparently changed for both since Ann took on the job of co-anchor a year ago.
Critics in the past said that both had trouble clicking on the show but Curry last week dismissed it and humbly mentioned that she deserved "as much blame for that as anyone."
Curry's exit of the show is representative of NBC's attempt to fend-off the rating slumps the 'Today' show has suffered so far this year, according to various media agencies.
Curry would be replaced by Savannah Guthrie, and Curry on the other hand, would now move on to become NBC's anchor-at-large and a national/international correspondent.
During Thursday's episode, Curry's last, Curry in tears shared about her new role.
"They are giving me some fancy new titles which essentially mean that I am going to get tickets to every big story we want to cover with a terrific team of my choosing. We are going to go all over the world and all over this country at a time when this country and world needs clarity. We are going to do great work I hope and we are being given the chance to do the work that most of us got into journalism to do," she said.
She then concluded with, "These stories are going to air on all the platforms of NBC today, including here on Today."
