Land Rover just released the 2014 Ranger Rover Sport at the New York auto show last month and if that didn't stir enough excitement in the Rover community, it appears that the British automaker might be working on a new SUV to add to their Range Rover lineup as well.

Auto sites speculate that the new model captured in spy photos will be given the namesake R-S.

"While the name is uncertain, the plan doesn't appear to be: put even more power and sharper handling into the Range Rover Sport's new package and see what can be done," said Nelson Ireson from Motor Authority.

"With 800 fewer pounds on board and an improved chassis, quite a lot should be possible."

While it is not entirely clear what Land Rover is planning for this vehicle, there are more details expected to be available in the near future. So check back for more updates.

In the meantime, there is definitely certainty over what the 2014 Range Rover Sport is all about.

The latest installment of the Range Rover lineup just debuted at the auto show in the Big Apple last month.

As far as the powertrain goes, there are few options available on the newest model, including a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with 340 horsepower and an eight-cylinder 5.0-liter supercharged engine with 510 horsepower that is available on the Supercharged and Autobiography trims.

Prices on the 2014 Range Rover Sport start at $63,495 for the base package up to $93,295 and beyond for the Autobiography trim.
