Amtrak announces that their Northeast Corridor line operating between New York and Washington will not go any further than Penn Station in Manhattan.
"At the request of local authorities, and due to ongoing police activity, Amtrak Acela Express and Northeast Regional service remains suspended indefinitely in the Boston area," the company said in a statement released at 12:30 p.m. ET.
"Northeast Corridor trains are terminating at New York Penn Station."
But while there is still modified schedule service on the Amtrak Downeaster, there will be no service to Boston.
"Amtrak service is operating normally between Washington, DC, Philadelphia and New York. The Springfield Shuttle between New Haven, Conn. and Springfield Mass. is also operating on a normal schedule," according to Amtrak's service alert.
It is still unknown when service will resume into the Boston area, but Amtrak says that they are working with law enforcement agencies regarding the service suspension.
The rail company added that refunds would be issued due to the service disruption and that reservations may be canceled or changed on Amtrak's website or mobile application.
"Passengers who have paid but choose not to travel due to this service disruption can receive a refund or a voucher for future travel. Some reservations booked online can be modified or canceled on Amtrak.com or by using the free Amtrak mobile app," the company's statement reads.
