The Cannes Film Festival announced its official selections on Thursday April 18th at the Champs Elysees Theater.

Among the films that will be screened in competition are Steven Soderbergh's last film "Behind the Candelabra" with Matt Damon and Michale Douglass. Joel and Ethan Coen's CBS release "Inside Llewyn Davis," starring Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isscas and Justin Timberlak, will also be showcased. 

The highly anticpated "Only God Forgives" will also makes it world premiere. The film, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, reunites him with Ryan Gosling and also stars Kristen Scott Thomas. Alexander Payne's followup to "The Descendants", entitled "Nebraska," will also be featured in competition. The film stars Will Forte and Bruce Dern. James Gray's "The Immigrant" starring Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner will also premiere alongside Asghar Farhadi's new film "The Past." The film marks the Iranian director's first French film and stars Berenice Bejo and Tahar Rahim.

Roman Polanski's new film "Venus in Fur" will also be part of the competition slate. It will mark the director's first film in competition since he won the Palm d'Or in 2002 for "The Pianist." Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi, who will screen "Un Chateau en Italie,"is the only female director in the Competition.

In the Un Certain Regard competition Sofia Coppola's new film "The Bling Ring," starring Emma Watson, will compete against Sundance winner "Fruitvale Station" and James Franco's "As I Lay Dying."

Two Out of Competition films will be screened; Guillame Canet's "Blood Ties," starring Mila Kunis, Marion Cotillard, Clive Owen, Zoe Saldana, and Matthias Schoenaerts, and J.C Chandor's second feature "All is Lost" with Robert Redford. 

In the special screening series Polanski will also screen his new documentary "Weekend of a Champion;" the HBO series "Muhammed Ali's Greatest Fight" by Stephen Frears will also premiere.

As previously announced, "The Great Gatsby," starring Leonardo Dicaprio, Tobey Maguire and Mulligan, will open the festival while "Zulu" starring Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker will be the closing night entry. 

Steven Spielberg will be president of the jury while Palme d'Or winner Jane Campion will oversee the short film competition category. Danish director Thomas Vinterberg will lead the jury for the popular Un Certain Regard sidebar of the festival.

At the end of the conference, artistic director Theiry Fremaux hinted that he would most likely add a last minute film to the lineup. The remaining jurors have yet to be announced; the news is now expected next week.
