There hasn't really been a fashion designer of the "iconic" caliber to have their own reality show. Sure Kimora Lee has brought fashion and fabulosity to the Style network, but she is no Diane von Furstenberg, or Donatella Versace (sorry). It would appear that the network has found their first candidate as Betsey Johnson is getting her own show.
Premiering May 12, "XOX, Betsey Johnson" will take viewers into the world of the eclectic designer as she brings us on her journey of new beginnings post-bankruptcy that caused her to close many of her stores. Joining her on the show is her daughter Lulu who works alongside her famous mom to rebuild her brand. There is a closeness between the mother-daughter pair that at times becomes strained due to their business relationship. Also starring in the show is Bogdan (Betsey's personal trainer), Janet (a couples therapist Betsey and Lulu use to sort out their issues) and others who will make the journey extra fun to watch.
At the age of 70, Betsey will show the world it's never too early to pick yourself up and start again. "XOX, Betsey Johnson" will take you through the adventures of creating a fashion line, its roadblocks and how to make it in the industry. Even Lulu has the entrepreneurial bug as she entertains the idea of starting a collection of her own.
A series sneak peek reveals the ever colorful designer working on a retrospective fashion show that Betsey calls, "the biggest fashion show of my life." Looking to create something memorable, Betsey and daughter Lulu head to Tokyo for inspiration for the line. There will be fights, tears, laughter, fashion and even splits! One thing is for sure - fans of Betsey Johnson will enjoy this show as it amplifies her fun nature showing the world why so many love her.
