Taking multiple breaks throughout the season and confusing some viewers as to when a new episode will air, rest assured it's coming back on April 25. In the meantime, it's probably best we reacquaint ourselves with all that happened over the season. Should you be new to the "Scandal" bandwagon - consider this your cliff notes.
The start of season two has the identity of newcomer to Pope & Associates, Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes) revealed to formerly be Lindsay Dwyer. Dwyer was accused of murdering her boyfriend and six of his co-workers after a delivered bomb detonates in his office. Framed for their murders, Lindsay ran away where she was drugged and sent to Washington D.C. with the new identity of Quinn Perkins. You find out Huck (Guillermo Díaz) was sent by Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) to retrieve Quinn bringing her to safety. Now on trial for murder, Olivia pulls behind the scenes strings and has her case dismissed due to circumstantial evidence.
U.S. Attorney David Rosen (Joshua Malina) digs deeper into Quinn's case for answers as to how she walked away from the death penalty, he uncovers that the bombing was in fact a cover-up to conceal a voting rig scandal. Energy tycoon Hollis Doyle (Gregg Henry), First Lady Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young), White House Chief of Staff Cyrus Beane (Jeff Perry), Supreme Court Justice Verna Thornton (Debra Mooney) and Olivia Pope herself secretly convened during the campaign and decided to do what was necessary to get Fitzgerald Grant in office. In a flashback during a later episode, we find Quinn's former lover Jesse Tyler stumbling upon Doyle's involvement to obtain a pipeline project. Promising the group he'll "handle the situation," Doyle has Tyler and co-workers killed. No one knew he would kill anyone.
While arriving at a huge bash, President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) is shot upon exiting his car with wife Mellie by an unknown assailant. Huck is seen leaving the room where the gun was left. Clinging to his life, President Grant falls into a coma while Olivia and Mellie, along with the help of Cyrus join forces to prevent Vice President Sally Langston (Kate Burton) from seizing power. Huck becomes a prisoner of the Justice Department thanks to an anonymous tip from Justice Thorton where he is beaten and waterboarded until rescue. Huck soon realizes his new love is not who she says and stops her from making a second attempt on the President's life. President Grant wakes from his coma though the mystery of who hired an assassin remains unknown.
Olivia realizes her deep love for Fitzgerald as she tried to deny it running back into the arms of past love, Senator Majority Leader Edison Davis (Norm Lewis). Upon Fitzgerald awakening, she realizes he still has her heart and finds herself in a one-sided relationship as with the President and Mellie.
With President Fitzgerald Grant out of the hospital, he quickly re-assumes authority of governing the United States. Getting a second chance at life, Fitz makes the shocking decision to divorce Mellie as they have been in a loveless marriage long enough. Upon hearing the news, Olivia decides to remain with Senator Majority Leader Edison Davis to ensure President Grant makes no hasty decisions that could cost him the White House, but does not say yes to his proposal. In an effort to keep her marriage together, Mellie gets her doctor to induce labor in efforts to rekindle her relationship with her husband.
