The official title for Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence's new film has been released.
The film directed by David O. Russell will be titled "American Hustle." Originally called "American Bullshit," the film's title was changed and for a few months was known as the untitled Abscam drama.
The film will reunite Cooper, Lawrence and Russell after they worked on the Academy Award nominee "Silver Linings Playbook." It will also mark the reunion of Russell with Christian Bale and Amy Adams after the "The Fighter."
"American Hustle" is based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams), who were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians. At the epicenter of the entire tale, is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Jeremy Renner) who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden.
Lawrence recently won an Academy Award for her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook." She will also reunite a third time with Russell for an untitled film set for the Weinstein Company. She was last seen in "The Hunger Games" and "House at the End of the Street." Lawrence will next reprise her role as Katniss in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and will star in "Serena" also alongside Cooper.
Cooper is currently in "The Place Beyond the Pines" with Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes. He was last seen in "Silver Lining Playbook" for which he received an Academy Award and will next star in "Serena."
Bale last starred in "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Flowers of War." He next be seen in "Out of the Furnace" with Zoe Saldana, Forest Whitaker, and Woody Harrelson. Adams last starred in "The Master" for which she was nominated for the Oscar. She next appears in "Man of Steel" and in Spike Jonze's new film "Her."
"American Hustle" arrives in theaters on December 25, 2013.
