The viral marketing campaign for "Man of Steel" has officially kicked off.

During the MTV Movie Awards, Warner Bros unveiled a video featuring the voice of General Zod (Michael Shannon) with static imagery as he reaches out to earthlings. His message is as follows: "My name is General Zod. For some time your world has sheltered one of my citizens. I request that you return this individual to my custody. To Kal-El, I say this. Surrender within 24 hours." Watch it below.

While Zod has been confirmed as the film's main villain, rumors persist that Lex Luthor might also make an appearance. A few weeks ago, Ain't It Cool News revealed that Mackenzie Grey was involved in the film and could be cast as the iconic super villain. "Lots of people have been wondering if LEX LUTHOR was going to be in MAN OF STEEL," the publication wrote. "The answer is apparently a very loud YES. Not only that the tone that Nolan/Goyer/Snyder are going for with the character is not the silly goofy Hackman Luthor... But an ambitious, ego driven and cold version of Luthor."

Writer David Goyer later stated in an interview, "I don't think anyone has ever confirmed that we haven't included him."

"Man of Steel" will star Henry Cavill as Clark Kent (Superman), Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. Michael Shannon will also play the villain General Zod. The film has received a PG-13 rating and will come out in theaters on June 14, 2013.
