Most award shows are shrouded in the glimmer of the Grammys and Oscars. That doesn't mean others such as the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards aren't equally as glamorous and tantalizing, they're simply hidden in the overcasting shadow of the heavy hitters. In recent years however, the trend is reversing. The MTV Movie Awards in particulars is gaining popularity and respect, especially among younger audiences, who have a direct hand in decided the award winners. Every year, the ceremony outdoes itself and sets the bar even higher. With stellar performances, stunning hosts, uproarious comedy sketches and notable categories such as Best Kiss and Best Fight, the MTV Movie Awards is climbing its way to the top of award show royalty.
This year's MTV Movie Awards is now upon us, so here's a brief rundown of what to expect.
Rebel Wilson from "Pitch Perfect" will host live from Los Angeles on Sunday, April 14 at 9/8 p.m. central. Supermodel Karlie Kloss and "Jersey Shore" stud Vinny will join the MTV News crew from the red carpet prior to the ceremony.
Brad Pitt will present the Golden Popcorn (the ceremony's equivalent of an Oscar) for Movie of the Year and the captivating "Game of Thrones'" star Peter Dinklage will present the Comedic Genius Award alongside superstar Will Ferrell. Dinklage and Ferrell both appeared in the 2003 classic "Elf." Other presenters include Kim Kardashian (yay), Liam Hemsworth, who will introduce the new highly anticipated "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" movie trailer, Amanda Seyfried and Melissa McCarthy.
The MTV Trailblazer Award, celebrating the movie industry's upcoming actors, will be given to Emma Watson for her work in "Perks of Being a Wallflower."
Live performers include Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Selena Gomez, who will perform her newest single Come & Get It off her upcoming album.
As mentioned above, fans play a direct role in the ceremony's winners. There's still time to vote for your favorites, so be sure to vote on MTV's website before Sunday's event to cast your vote.
