The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has retracted its decision to bar Apple from trademarking the iPad mini name.

As Latinos Post reported, Apple made the effort to trademark their 7.9-inch tablet as the "iPad Mini" but was denied by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in January due to trying to "mark merely describes a feature or characteristic of applicant's goods."

"In this case, both the individual components and the composite result are descriptive of applicant's goods and do not create a unique, incongruous, or non-descriptive meaning in relation to the goods being small handheld mobile devices comprising tablet computers capable of providing Internet access," the office noted earlier this year.

In a new update, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has rejected its own decision.

"This Office action supersedes any previous Office action issued in connection with this application," wrote the office under the guidance of a strict deadline. "Upon further review of the application, the examining attorney has determined that the following refusal issued in the initial Office action should be withdrawn. The examining attorney apologizes for any inconvenience caused."

Apple has up to six months to respond to the patent and trademark office's letter. Despite the retraction to their objection, it does not guarantee the office will give Apple the right to the "Mini" name.

The iPad mini also features 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB of internal storage variants with 512MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 2,592x1,944 pixels, front-facing camera with 1.2 megapixels, iOS 6 operating system, and is available in black and white color options.
