Bradley Cooper has joined the Natalie Portman starrer "Jane Got a Gun."
Cooper replaced Jude Law who quit the film after director Lynne Ramsey left. Cooper will play the antagonist who was originally supposed to be played by Joel Edgerton. Edgerton will now play the lead role with Natalie Portman as Jane.
The film tells the story of a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds and barely alive. When her husband's gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job, she is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm.
Throughout the past month the film has suffered setbacks. When Ramsey resigned, producers Scot Steindorff told Deadline, "I have millions of dollars invested, we're ready to shoot, we have a great script, crew and cast. I'm shocked and so disappointed someone would do this to 150 crew members who devoted so much time, energy, commitment and loyalty to a project, and then have the director not show up. It is insane somebody would do this to other people."
Ramsey and Law were not however the first to exit the production. Earlier in the month, Michael Fassbender exited stating that the film would interfere with his upcoming X Men sequel. Joel Edgerton then replaced him and Law signed on to replace Edgerton.
Cooper is currently working on David O. Russell's Abscam drama and therefore will most likely delay Jane Got A Gun which was supposed to start shooting in March.
The Academy Award nominee was last seen in "Silver Linings Playbook" with Jennifer Lawrence. He can currently be seen in "The Place Beyond the Pines" with Ryan Gosling and will reprise his role in "The Hangover Part 3" this summer. Cooper will also reunite with Lawrence for "Serena" and "The Abscam Drama."
"Jane Got a Gun" is slated for release in 2014 and will be directed by Gavin O. Connor.
