Colombian star Radamel Falcao has been a hot topic in the world of soccer. The Atletico Madrid star has had a solid season in the Spanish league and is rumored to be headed out of Spain during the summer.
Many stated that Chelsea was the favored destination during the January transfer window, but Falcao chose to stay put and help Madrid in the Spanish league.
However, according to the Daily Star it looks like the Blues are back in the lead to grab the striker's services. The UK publication writes that "CHELSEA have edged ahead of Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race to net £40m striking sensation Falcao" and that "both parties are confident a deal will be done that will see the Stamford Bridge side land one of Europe's deadliest strikers."
The publication also rumors that Chelsea striker Fernando Torres could be headed to Atletico Madrid as part of the deal. Torres played in Madrid prior to leaving for England in 2007. He played well in Liverpool but his transfer to Chelsea two years ago has been nothing but a disaster. He has just five goals in 24 matches for Chelsea in the 2012-13 season and was recently left out of the Spanish national team during the recent World Cup qualifiers. "Fernando's inconsistency provoked a sense of insecurity in us," Spanish manager Vicente Del Bosque replied when asked why he omitted Torres.
Meanwhile, Falcao has been tremendous for Atletico with 21 goals in 25 matches. He is sure to be the striker that Chelsea has needed all year as the Blues have been plagued with untimely goal scoring droughts.
