'The Host' Review Roundup: Stephenie Meyer's Latest Film Adaptation Gets Worse Reviews than 'Twilight'

On March 29^th Stephenie Meyer's "The Host" will open nationwide.

The film, starring Saorise Ronan, Diane Kruger and Max Irons, tells the story of an unseen enemy who threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories. When threatened Melanie risks everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.

After the film's premiere on Monday, it has obtained negative reviews with an 11 percent aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes. The New York Times gave the film one star out of five and stated "Dopey, derivative and dull, 'The Host' is a brazen combination of unoriginal science-fiction themes, young-adult pandering and bottom-line calculation."

Peter Travers of the Rolling Stone also gave the film one star out of five and said "The Host is born from the mother of all things Twilight, Stephenie Meyer, which is the next best - or worst - thing, depending on your point of view."

Hollywood Reporter also disliked it and stated "There's something about novelist Stephenie Meyer that induces formerly interesting directors to suddenly make films that are slow, silly and soporific."

Latinos Post called it "It's Better Than Twilight... But That's Not Saying Much."

Academy Award nominee Ronan was last seen in "Hanna" with Cate Blanchet and "The Way Back" with Ed Harris. She will next star alongside Gemma Arterton in "Byzantium" and in Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel."

Kruger recently appeared in "Farewell, My Queen" and "Unknown" with Liam Neeson. Irons made his big screen debut in "Red Riding Hood" and appeared in "The Runaway"

The film was directed by Andrew Niccol and will be distributed by Open Road Entertainment in 3,202 theaters.
