Israel blew a 3-1 lead in its match against Portugal and lost the opportunity to create separation for the second spot in Group F.
However, the team will get another chance as it takes on a resurgent Northern Ireland... if the game between the two sides is allowed to happen.
The game between Northern Ireland and Russia was postponed on Friday due to a snowstorm and the match never took place. However conditions seemed to have improved since and the game between Israel and Northern Ireland should take place.
"I was at the pitch this morning, it's not wet and it's not sticky," said Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill. "In fact it's nice and dry and it's as good as it was before the snow was on it.
"The pitch is nice and firm, albeit slightly softer than it was when we trained on it on Thursday but we have no concerns about the pitch at all.
After losing their opening game against Russia 2-0, Northern Ireland has mustered three straight draws including a stunning 1-1 tie against Portugal in October. With three points, the team still has a long wait to go toward catching Israel (eight points) and Portugal for the elusive second place berth. A win on Tuesday would close the gap to just two points with one match in hand.
Predictions: Israel draws 1-1 with Northern Ireland.
