Daft Punk, the legendary French electronica duo, will release a new album on May 21, according to an article on Billboard.com. The new album will be entitled Random Access Memories, and be come out on Daft Lite Imprint, the duo's own label, in association with the group's official music label Columbia Records. This will be Daft Punk's fourth full length album of original material, with their last album being music composed for the Tron:Legacy movie in 2010.

This news is not very surprising for Daft Punk fans, as it was leaked that the group had registered 13 new tracks with Sony Music, and a brief snippet of new music was played during a commercial during Saturday Night Live. Daft Punk (a.k.a Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo) have waited eight full years before releasing brand new music all their own, as, besides the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, the only other release was a live album in 2007. While no track titles have been announced, the track lengths have, and total up to almost 75 minutes of music. People wishing to pre-order the album from iTunes can do so here.

Daft Punk is one of the most famous electronica groups of all time, and their unique, space-age jumpsuits and helmets make them very distinguishable from their fellow techno artists. Daft Punk is considered the forerunner to the recent popularity of dubstep artists such as Skrillex and Deadmau5.

Fans have been waiting a long time to hear new music from the band, so this undoubtedly is good news for the groups long-suffering fan base. Hopefully soon Daft Punk will release a full length song for the album before we can get our hands on the whole thing May 21.
