Author George R. R. Martin already told fans that he knows who will ultimately rule the Iron Throne, but as we get closer to the return of "Game of Thrones," fans are given even more juicy details. It's hard to spoil a series that's based off a book that's been written already, however the show's cast shared some insider information during a promotional event at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.
Like other "Game of Thrones" cast panel discussions, what was set to be formal, informative sessions turned into a comedy show. Instead of focusing on the material, most cast members joked about odd occurrences on set and who gets along with who behind-the-scenes.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, known as Jamie Lannister or the Kingslayer on the show, got most the attention in the Four Seasons as cast members joked about his obsession with "Breaking Bad," his hilarious relationship with Gwendoline Christie, known as Brienne on the show, and his non ambidextrous sword skills.
Although his character is revered as a fierce swordsman, Coster-Waldau isn't the warrior he appears to be. "He learned on Skype," jabbed Christie. While shooting one particular battle scene, Coster-Waldau even suffered an injury from Noah Taylor, known as Vargo Hoat of the Goat.
"He bruised my rib!" cried Coster-Waldau jokingly.
"We loved him, absolutely adored him," said Christie. "He was just the most gloriously savage, entertaining, extraordinary man. You can tell he's dedicated to the work but he's having fun with it all the time. He was one of my favorites to work with this season."
But the Kingslayer wasn't the only one who stole the spotlight. Fifteen-year-old Maisie Williams also got her fair share of attention. She admitted to her "Glee" addiction and talked about her sing and rap in the "Game of Thrones" DVD extras.
Another young starlet, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa, opened up about her role as King Joffrey's tortured puppet. "The thing that frustrates me is the fact if you were a 13-year-old girl thrust into the exactly same situation I can almost guarantee you would make the same decisions she makes," said Turner. "She's not going to let people use her. She's not going to be so naive... That's what I think will hopefully attract the viewer to her and perhaps think more kindly of her... I feel she is my first love in a way, it's weird."
The cast also talked about shooting beyond the wall, otherwise known as Iceland. They complained about the long hours and pure exhaustion that set in after trudging through five feet of snow on a daily basis. "It was just a day of running," said John Bradley, who plays Samwell Tardy. "I kept running through five-foot snow. At the end of six hours, I was exhausted-and Sam's been running for about 12. Sam's theoretically fitter than me!"
What's most important is what the cast said about the season as a whole. They emphasized that the story has only begun and that the third season of "Game of Thrones" is "pivotal." It's "the massive finale of the first act." Winter is coming, and that's just the beginning.
