Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't even get a chance to file for unemployment.
The Tennessee Titans have signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a two-year contract. The former Buffalo Bulls starter will now serve as backup to QB Jake Locker, according to ESPN.
Fitzpatrick found himself without a job and at the center of a prank that had the Bulls front office secretly discussing his imminent release from the team last Monday. Once news of the recorded phone call broke, Fitzpatrick was soon released.
Although Buffalo had lost faith in the quarterback, it wasn't long before Fitzpatrick was taking visits to Cincinnati and Tennessee.
The 30-year-old Fitzpatrick was plagued by accuracy and consistency issues in Buffalo going 20-33 as a starter. In October 2011, he signed a six-year, $59 million contract extension, but never lived up to the contract.
Tennessee signs Fitzpatrick on the heels of releasing 37-year-old backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. Fitzpatrick started all 16 regular season games for the Bills completing 60 percent of his passes for 3,400 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He also had six fumbles as the Buffalo Bills finished the season with a 6-10 record.
The Titans must be happy with the lateral, because in a sense, this is little more than a lateral move. The Titans also finished last season 6-10. Quarterback Jake Locker's job isn't in immediate danger, but it's a given that Fitzpatrick's presence will definitely push the quarterback. Locker was selected eighth in the first round of the 2011 draft, so big things are expected of him. Last season, Locker played in 11 games, finishing with 2176 yards with 10 passing TDs and 11 INTs. He was also sacked 25 times.
