"Star Wars Episode 7" is one of the most anticipated films of the next few years. A number of stars have stated their interest in working on future installments of the franchise. Among them are Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Samuel L. Jackson, Keri Russell, Olivia Munn, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Ewan McGregor.
Total Film recently interviewed a plethora of other Hollywood stars to see who would want to participate in the film and what they thought of new director J.J. Abrams.
The overriding consensus was that Abrams was a solid choice as the director.
"I think getting JJ Abrams to work on Star Wars is a stroke of genius," said Mark Strong. He also stated that he could see himself as a Jedi Master in future franchise installments.
"Jack the Giant Slayer" star Nicholas Hoult added, "The Star Wars universe is always expanding and I think [J.J.'s] a good guy to create some new stories."
One director that was rumored as a potential candidate to direct the film was "Avengers" helmer Joss Whedon. Whedon clarified that he was never approach but attributes it to the fact that Disney controlled both the "Avengers" and "Star Wars" and knew that h was busy with the comic book franchise. He added that he would consider working on Star Wars if the chance to work came up. Regarding Abrams, Whedon was extremely complimentary of his colleague. "I think JJ is absolutely the guy for it. I literally can't think of anybody else I'd rather have do it," said Whedon.
Director Eli Roth was more enthusiastic about the prospect of helming his own "Star Wars movie. "Star Wars is clearly the reason I'm making movies. If Kathleen Kennedy would like me to direct a Star Wars I'm sure I could clear my schedule," he noted. He added that he would like to see a movie about Greedo.
X-Men director Brian Singer was not as ready to jump into the Star Wars Universe. "Jumping into my own franchise is one thing. Jumping into somebody else's franchise is a little different," he stated. "It would have to be the right story and the right cast. The right situation."
