Christian Bale is Ridley Scott's top pick to play the titular role of Moses in his new film "Exodus."
The director is currently working on a movie based on "The Bible" about Moses leading his people out of the desert. Steve Zaillian (American Gangster, Moneyball) is currently rewriting the script by Bill Collage and Adam Cooper.
Academy Award winner Bale is currently working on David O. Russell's Abscam drama which is due out in December. He also recently completed work of Terrence Malick's two films "Knight of Cup" and "an Untitled project." He will also be seen in Scott Cooper's "Out of Furnace" with Zoe Saldana and Woody Harrelson.
Scott just completed his new film "The Counselor" with Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt. He recently directed "Prometheus" with Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace and "Robin Hood" with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.
The Bible is currently having a resurgence as Darren Aronofsy just adapted "Noah" with Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, and Jennifer Connelly; Will Smith's Cain and Abel project was recently green lit. Additionally History Channel's series "The Bible" is enjoying massive ratings. Another Moses movie is in development entitled "Gods and Kings." Steven Spielberg (Lincoln) recently left the project and Ang Lee (Life of Pi) is now being courted by the Warner Bros to direct the film.
"Exodus" will be developed by 20th century Fox and Chernin Entertainment and looks to be released in 2014.
