James Bond Producer Barbara Broccoli stated at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards that she was disappointed that Sam Mendes would not return for James Bond 24.
The producer said that she and the franchise were "devastated that he decided not to do the next one". She added "He's done it he has made one of the most successful films ever. We hope that we will be able to get him back."
Sam Mendes recently exited the James Bond franchise after directing "Skyfall." He stated, "directing 'Skyfall' was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory' and 'King Lear,' that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond." The director told Empire that exiting the franchise was a hard decision to make.
In a recent interview writer John Logan stated that he was going to maintain the serious tone of the last film because it was what Ian Fleming wanted from his book.
In the search for a new director, Guy Ritchie has emerged as the favorite after British bookmaker William Hill did a study. Danny Boyle also made headlines when he declared that he was not interested in directing a James Bond film because it was too big and did not suit his character or the type of films he was accustomed to making.
"Skyfall" received 5 Academy Award nominations and won 2 including Adele Adkin's Song "Skyfall." The film was also the recipient of 2 BAFTA awards including Best British Film. It scored rave reviews with a 92 percent aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Daniel Craig is slated to reprise the role of Bond with Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw in the 24th film. The movie is set to be released in 2014.
