Chelsea Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky, are signed a contract to buy a ritzy, $10.5 million apartment overlooking Madison Square Park in New York City, sources said. The couple is expected to close the deal this June.
The 5,000-square-foot pad, in The Whitman building at 21 E. 26th St., is not far from the couple's Gramercy Park loft. It's complete with four bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms, while the living room offers a view of Madison Square Park. The pad is furnished with oak floors and Italian marble bathrooms, plus it features elevator access and a private gym.
Last Sunday, Clinton, 33, and her husband, 35, took a private tour of the apartment with her parents former President Bill Clinton and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. However, when they arrived, they were surprised to see construction workers, a source said.
The former first family shook hands and posed for pictures with the awestruck workers, the source said.
A number of A-list celebrities like MLB Yankees player Alex Rodriguez also took a tour of the apartment before the Clintons and Mezvinsky jumped on it, a real estate source said.
"It's a rare opportunity to live in a pre-war building with high ceiling and park views," a broker who has toured the building told the News.
The apartment is being marketed by two of Douglas Elliman's top brokers, Melanie Lazenby, whose father George played James Bond, and Dina Lewis.
