The Royal Opera House announced their new season with the company celebrating Verdi and Wagner's bicentennial and Strauss' 150th anniversary.
The season celebrates Verdi's birthday with the company premiere of "'Les Vespre Siciliennes." The production by Stefan Herheim will be conducted by Antonio Pappano. It will also star Marina Poplavskaya, Erwin Schrott, Michael Volle and Bryan Hymel.
Wagner's "Parsifal" will receive a new production by Stephen Langridge and Pappano in the pit. The production will star Simon O'Neill, Angela Denoke, Rene Pape, and Gerald Finley.
In commemoration of Strauss' birthday the company will show a new production of "Die Frau Ohne Schatten" with Johan Botha, Emily Magee, and Michael Schuster. Semyon Bychov will conduct Claus Guth's production. The Company will also present the composer's "Elektra" with Christine Goerke and "Ariadne Auf Naxos" with Karita Mattila in her role debut.
The ROH is also presenting a new production of Puccini's "Manon Lescaut" by Jonathon Kent. Jonas Kaufmann and Kristine Opolais star in the production which will be shown in Cinemas.
Sir Simon Rattle returns to the company conducting Poulenc's "Les Dialogues des Carmelites" with his wife Magadelena Kozena in the role of Blanche. The new production will be directed by Robert Carson.
Joyce Didonato will open a new production of Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" while general manager Kasper Holten will direct Mozart's "Don Giovanni."
Star studded revivals include Gounod's "Faust" with Anna Netrebko, Joseph Calleja, Bryn Terfel and Simon Keenlyside. Verdi's "La Traviata" will also be revived with Diana Damrau as well as Puccini's "La Boheme" with Angela Gheorghiu and Vittorio Grigolo. Opera staples "Carmen" and "Manon" also return to "Le Nozze di Figaro."
The opera season will begin in September with Puccini's "Turandot."
