One wonders if he had to do this with all of his backups.
Quarterback controversies are nothing new, but surely Marty Mornhinweg hadn't seen something like this one.
The New York Jets new offensive coordinator has been running ideas past quarterback Tim Tebow, although he's not certain whether Tebow will remain a Jet. Mornhinweg gave the controversial QB an idea how things could play out.
"I'm excited to coach all of our players, including Tim. We had a long discussion," Mornhinweg said via conference call. "He's got my thoughts on the situation, and he has some thoughts as well if he's on this football team, which he is right now, I would do it a certain way."
Words like "if" rarely inspire enthusiasm with fans.
Something else that makes Tebow's future even cloudier happened recently. According to ESPN, The Jets signed free agent QB David Garrard, who now joins Greg McElroy, Tebow, and incumbent Mark Sanchez, who Mornhinweg said had a "leg up" for the QB competition.
So will Tebow be used as a quarterback, halfback or be the engine that drives the supposed "wildcat" offense that was the whole purpose of bringing him to New York at the cost of two draft picks last March?
Morninweg wouldn't say exactly how Tebow would be used, but praised his talent, USA Today reported.
"What [Tebow] did in Denver a year ago was something else. The man can play football. How you utilize him will certainly be the key," Mornhinweg said. "Just talking in general, [with] quarterbacks, the decision making is key, as well as accuracy and timing, so he certainly has some of that. It'll be interesting to see exactly where he's at."
