The Buffalo Sabres have continued to underachieve in 2012-13 and it seems that the team is ready to move some pieces to rebuild the team.
At the top of the list is Drew Stafford. According to a number of outlets, including the NHL Trade Report, "[Stafford] would welcome a move, would do him some good."
The report indicates that major interest is coming from the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, and Dallas Stars.
The 27-year old forward has gotten off to a poor start this season with only two goals and seven assists for nine points in 26 games. He has two-years remaining on his contract after this season and is paid $4 million per year to produce offense. In 2011-12 he scored 20 goals and 30 assists in 80 games. Despite the solid numbers, his output was a major drop-off from his performance in 2010-11 when Stafford scored 52 points in 62 games.
Other players rumored to be on the move include Jordan Leopold and Robin Regehr. Both defensemen come off the books after this season, but could get Buffalo some interesting pieces from teams looking for solid rentals for playoff runs.
The Sabres are currently in 14th place in the Eastern Conference with only 21 points. They are currently seven points out of a playoff spot and have been wildly inconsistent all year. In 2011-12, the team finished in 9th place with 89 points, three away from the eighth and final spot.
