A 27-year-old man was arrested in California by police Thursday after he got into a fight with his girlfriend and poisoned her by slipping Visine into her drink.
Shayne Curtis Carpenter, of Alta Sierra, was arrested by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office in Grass Valley, Calif. and charged with poisoning and domestic violence, ABC News reports.
Police say Carpenter got into an argument with his girlfriend and then put several drops of Visine into her drink which made her feel sick. The unidentified girlfriend noticed something suspicious was going on when she came across texts on Carpenter's cell phone bragging about the incident to his buddies.
"He was making texts to his buddies that if 'She's going to be talking crap then she's going to be crapping,'" Lt. Steve Tripp of the Nevada County Sheriff Department told ABC..
The woman reported her findings to the police and as part of the investigation she spoke to Carpenter about the allegations while police were on the line overhearing the conversation.
"We got admissions from him over the phone, when he was admitting to her, that he had done this," Tripp said.
The woman was treated and released at a local hospital. Carpenter posted $25,000 in bail and was released from jail on Friday.
