The Colorado Avalanche will get their second straight opportunity to end the Chicago Blackhawks' historic streak when the teams face off on Friday evening.
Chicago has now extended its run to 24 games without a regulation loss. The point streak is officially 30 games and dates back to the end of last season. The team is also riding a franchise-record 11-game winning streak. "A lot of people might think that we're pulling that game out of you know where, but really we're working for it," said Chicago Captain Jonathan Toews after the victory. "There's no special equation or whatever. There's no magic. It's just work ethic and the depth of our team kicking in."
"It's not normal, that's for sure," added forward Dan Carcillo. "I don't know about [it being] surreal, but it's definitely not normal. I'm pretty proud to be on this team and I'll do anything I can every night to help this team win. And I think everyone has the same attitude in this room."
The Avalanche saw their losing streak extended to three games. The team was defeated by Columbus on March 3 and then lost 2-1 to Detroit on March 5.
"It's a tough loss again," Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said. "It's two games in row that I thought we handled the game pretty well, for the most part, and we have a power play and we don't generate anything - and we give up the [goal] on it. It's just frustrating right now. We did some things well and to come up again without any points, it's disappointing."
Prediction: Chicago's streak will end eventually. The Avalanche is the team to make it happen with a 3-1 win.
