As the New York Jets mull over their quarterback future, the latest word around aren't looking too good for Tim Tebow.
While neither Rex Ryan nor Jets GM John Idzik have been indicating anything that has looked like the Jets are looking to get rid of their popular backup quarterback, sources close to the Jets say that the franchise's future plans don't look to be including the scramble-loving quarterback.
"I don't see anyone trading for Tebow," an opposing personnel director, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told ESPN this week. "If the Jets get compensation, that's impressive."
These days, there have been more questions than answers regarding the Jets' search for a quarterback. Starting quarterback Mark Sanchez is coming off a dismal season, but the Jets' brass don't have much faith in Tebow to have him replace Sanchez as the starter.
In actuality, the source noted, the Jets are looking to trade him. However, the question remains-where would he go? And if nobody would take him, would the Jets just outright release him? And then, still, where would Tebow go?
That source told ESPN that the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers could be takers for Tebow. With the trade of Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs scheduled to be completed March 12, the 49ers are in the market for a backup quarterback to new starter Colin Kaepernick.
While his ability to run the Wildcat offense has become his signature, Tebow has been heavily criticized for his lack of throwing ability. However, it is conceivable that he could become a suitable quarterback backup to scramble the ball for San Francisco when Kaepernick, who can run and throw well, is not in the game.
However, other league executives are speculating that Tebow could also end up in Philadelphia, New England, Chicago and Arizona as possible destinations.
All in all, while there is nothing certain for the future regarding the Jets or Tebow these days, both will certainly be things to watch heading into the 2013 NFL season.
