Michael Jordan is about to earn another ring...but it won't be with the Bobcats.
Air Jordan stopped by the Palm Beach County Courthouse Thursday morning to apply for a marriage license, according to TMZ.
Wait a minute, Jordan's a billionaire with his own line of shoes, apparel and a sports team. Couldn't he just get an assistant, servant or sycophant to make the court run for him?
The answer is no. Florida law requires that marriage license applicants show up in person. That's not only sensible, but a cool way for court employees to meet celebrities. Jordan showed up to the courthouse with his fiance, model Yvette Prieto. The two have been engaged since December 2011.
This would be Jordan's second marriage. He tied the knot with Juanita Vanoy in 1989. The marriage lasted until 2006 and turned out to the most expensive divorces in history, costing the sports mogul an estimated $168 million. The couple have three children, sons Jeffrey and Marcus, and a daughter, Jasmine.
The six-time NBA champion has been no stranger to court lately, having been served with a paternity suit in Georgia. According to documents, Pamela Y. Smith contends that Jordan is the father of her 16-year old son. She's requesting that Jordan take a paternity test, fork over child support and pay medical, dental and hospital costs. Jordan's attorney has labeled the lawsuit "a shameless, bad faith attempt to abuse the legal system."
Arguably the best that's ever played has taken the offensive against Smith's claims. He's filed a countersuit to stop Smith from claiming that he is the father.
'It is unfortunate that well-known figures are the target of these kind of claims," said Jordan's spokeswoman Estee Portnoy. "Michael Jordan will vigorously defend himself and his reputation."
