As the world prepares for the fourth season premiere of "Arrested Development" in May, people are also preparing for the revolutionary impact it will have on how television is watched. David Cross, one of the quirkiest and more enticing stars on the show, opens up about Netflix's approach to TV and the new season of "Arrested Development."
"Particularly, this last, fourth season, what Mitch did and how he's able to tell the story through the Netflix model -- I think it's going to redefine what television can be and stories can be and how they're presented." Cross told The Hollywood Reporter. "And I really think it's going to be historical in a sense; that we're going to look back on it in 10, 20, 30 years, and it will be a very important thing that Mitch and Netflix have done." Mitch Hurwitz is the genius creator and head chief writer of the series.
Cross expressed his excitement for the upcoming season and subsequent movie, but also confirmed rumors that the fourth season will also be the last. As much as he'd like to continue working on the cult series, it's too difficult to lasso the entire cast, the majority of which has catapulted into stardom since the series originally aired in 2003.
"I think we all assumed back then that it was just for one short season of, I believe, 10 episodes, which got expanded," Cross said. "But there was never ever any talk or promise of doing an extra season beyond what we were doing. In fact, the initial idea was that we do this season, and then it would lead up to what would be its own one-off movie."
Cross also added that he knew nothing of the supposed movie, but Jason Bateman, who plays Michael on "AD," told Larry King that the 14 episodes coming to Netflix in May will serve as Act 1 to the series finale "and Act 2 and Act 3 will be inside a movie that we will do later."
Details surrounding the subsequent movie remain cloudy, but like the fourth season, it will feature the entire original cast and a slew of guest stars including Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig and Ben Stiller.
Regardless, Cross is confident that season four will appease fans. "I think when it's over, they're going to be aching." Bring on the pain.
