Mount Etna erupted once again this year and a video of it spewing lava and hot gases into the air was recorded for the world to see.
The eruption took place Tuesday night in Italy, and is the latest since the Feb. 19 night eruption that was filmed by researchers at the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.
Standing at nearly 11,000-ft., Mount Etna is the largest volcano in Europe and one of the most active. Located on the island of Sicily, Etna is a strato volcano that slopes downward to an opening of molten rock deep below the surface. Eruptions occur as pressure below grows leading to the release of gas and lava, according to Science World Report.
A major eruption at Mount Etna caused havoc at European airports in 2011, when the volcano spewed fumes high into the atmosphere making it impossible for plane travel. The images of the gases emitted by the volcano were captured from space.
