The Battle of Ontario resumes when the Toronto Maple Leafs face the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night.
The Maple Leafs are coming off a dominating win over the New Jersey Devils. Leading the way was 22-year old Nazem Kadri who extended his point streak to five games; he has scored nine points in that span. Despite the youngster's tremendous success, Coach Randy Carlyle was not willing to throw too much praise at the forward.
"Who's that? You guys just want to anoint him, don't you?" said Carlyle. "He's a great young player and he's got a skill set that separates him from people, but in the second period he goes 1 on 4 and he was the start of the onslaught of turning the puck over. Then he had a two-minute shift and he had all those things and he still ends up being the fair-haired boy."
The Leafs rallied from a 2-1 deficit after the second period and scored three goals in the third to secure the victory.
"We talked amongst ourselves and pointed out that those first two periods really weren't acceptable and indicated on some of the things we needed to improve on," said Kadri after the win. "That's really what it's about coming in through the intermissions: it's about resetting and analyzing your 20 minutes of play.
The Senators are coming off a tough 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Islanders. The team rallied from two deficits in the game, but came up short in the skills competition.
"Frustration is a useless emotion to me," Coach Paul MacLean said after the loss. "They gave a good account of themselves. We'd have liked to win the game, but they were a little bit better in the shootout than we were."
This is the third of five meetings between these two rivals. Ben Scrivens earned his first NHL shutout in a 3-0 Toronto win on Feb. 16. Only one week later, Ottawa pulled off a 3-2 win over Toronto.
Prediction: Toronto wins 4-2.
