UPDATE: Fisher's Reps claim that actress was "joking" about her participation. Read more HERE.
Princess Leia will be appearing in "Star Wars Episode 7" according to actress Carrie Fisher.
The actress confirmed her participation in the new movie during an interview with Palm Beach Illustrated. When asked "Disney is going to continue the Star Wars saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you'll reprise the role of Princess Leia?" Fisher responded with a simple "Yes."
When asked how she imagined Leia was "today," Fisher added that "Elderly. She's in an intergalactic old folks' home." She added, "I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle."
Fisher is the second actor to confirm participation in the new movie. A few weeks ago, Mark Hamill mentioned being talked to about returning to the role that made him famous. "They're talking to us," Hamill said. "George [Lucas] wanted to know whether we'd be interested. He did say that if we didn't want to do it, they wouldn't cast another actor in our parts - they would write us out. ... I can tell you right away that we haven't signed any contracts. We're in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings set that were postponed -- on their end, not mine. They're more busy than I am."
Harrison Ford is also rumored to return for "Episode 7," but there has been no confirmation his inclusion in the new film.
"Star Wars Episode 7" will be written by Michael Arndt and directed by JJ Abrams. The film is slated for a tentative 2015 release date.
